Being authentically you means embracing your true self without the pressure to conform or fear of judgment. It’s about being honest with yourself and others, staying true to your values, and aligning your actions with who you genuinely are.
I recently attended the Authentically You event on 5th October 2024; this experience was curated by Elite Women KE , a community founded by Sally Mwasaru and Christine Muthoni. Guests were encouraged to dress in one of four colors: Green symbolizing growth and harmony, Yellow representing confidence and positivity, Orange for creativity and passion, or Pink for love and compassion.
The event had three sessions:
- Tea Tales, a unique beverage intelligence session with live tea tasting by Melvins Tea . The session covered the art and science behind tea, various tea varieties, brewing techniques, and flavors that match different moods.
2. The second session was a Taking Stock panel conversation with inspirational panellists:
- Flora Mutahi, Founder & CEO of Melvins Teas.
- Rosalind Gichuru, Group Director Marketing and Communications at KCB.
- Cynthia Mwangi, Brand Manager and Radio Personality at HOT 96 and Strategic Communications Consultants.
- Leah Njoya Kiala, Founder Authentically-You Global and Transformation Life Coach.
My eight key takeaways from the sessions were:
- Discover and pursue your purpose: Life always has a purpose, but it unfolds through continuous self-interrogation. Strive to learn yours, and be ready for it to evolve as you do.
- Embrace being multifaceted: If you’re multi-talented, don’t hesitate to express all the different dimensions of yourself. Being multi-talented is a strength, so use and enjoy it fully.
- Own your mistakes and apologize: Take responsibility for your actions, admit when you’re wrong, and always be willing to apologize when necessary.
- Remember who you are: Even as life, career, and responsibilities pull you in different directions, keep sight of your true self.
- Reflect on relationships to define non-negotiables: Use completed relationships and friendships as a guide to better understand your boundaries and what you truly value.
- Be authentic and true to yourself: There is no need to compete with others, authenticity is key to success. When you stay true to yourself, you can positively influence your environment, whether at work or in life.
- Stand your ground and respect Boundaries: Sometimes, standing your ground is more important than being “nice.” Establish and protect your boundaries with confidence.
- Evolve with each season: There is no such thing as reaching a ceiling. Embrace change as you grow through different seasons, and let your goals adapt accordingly.
3. The third session was Scent of Me, a fun DIY perfume-making class by The Eco Nest . We learned the art of crafting one’s signature scent with guidance from an expert and how to let fragrance reflect our true selves. The session included samples of various scents for each person and we got to experiment till we came up with a fragrance we love.
I thoroughly enjoyed This well put together event, especially the panel conversations. If you want more information on the community, you can visit their website: Elite Woman KE (elitewomenke.com) or their Instagram page: COMMUNITY | EVENTS (@elitewomenke).
